The beautiful, quaint and endearing
Al Quinta Forest Garden

is located in the
South of France at
the foothills of the Pyrenees, about 8 km from the sea.

We are a small, organic permaculture farm growing a wide variety of fruit and vegetables as well as many olive trees.

We require help with all aspects of a sustainable, compassionate lifestyle. We are as self sufficient as possible, practice various methods of water recycling, grow fruit & vegetables for our own needs.

We have many rescued animals including 2 dogs, cats, a house pig, 2 donkeys, 2 ducks, a handicapped goat and 2 rabbits.

Meals are vegan.

We also have a biological swimming pool perfect for cooling down in!

This was my first live in, volunteer experience and first HelpX stay. Namua's home is 1.5 kms out of town in an idealic spot below the mountains, near a river and lots of Walks. Her house is wonderfully remote but only a 10min walk to the village. Namua speaks perfect English and French, was very welcoming and I felt at home quickly. She was clear when issues arose, addressing them promptly and then quickly moving on. I hugely respect her ability to address things so effectively, without any animosity and within a minute be smiling again. She is warm, happy and positive and her animal menagerie was just one more reason to stay. She had 3 donkeys, a house trained pig, chickens, dogs and cats, all rescued and needing loving care, which was a joy to be a part of. I learnt so much from staying, from how to cook amazing vegan food (beware, I swear I put on a bit of weight, her food is seriously good!), to horticulture methods, to edible wild plant identification, eating and preparation, to sustainable living ideas, composting toilets, natural swimming pools and so much more. I wish I could have stayed longer and no doubt am likely to return. They all feel like an extended family and I hope we keep in touch. Practicalities - you can probably be picked up from the village or train station, it is also easy to ask for directions to the road and to walk from the 1Euro bus stop. Her vegan food is amazing, but if you like snacks, take some for in between meals and ensure they are vegan to respect her. She provides bedding and there is a box of clothes and a few shoes from previous woofers just incase. The village has a post office, pharmacy, Drs, very good information center and restaurants and cafes (though I never used as her cooking is so good). She also has a swimming pool that was great to cool off.
No hesitation to recommend this to anyone that is open minded and interested in loving annals and learning about great ways to live.

I stayed with Namua and other helpx workers this September/October and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Namua is a lovely knowledgeable host and to get the most out of the experience I think you need to want to learn about the permaculture and sustainability processes. Thanks again for a lovely stay.

This is a beautiful place to come.
Namua is kind and open
and over her time here has created a wonderful place to be, nestled in the mountains, and a short stroll away from the river. i instantly felt at home. If you are interested in veganism, sustainable living and like animals (4 loverly dogs and 7 very affectionate cats)im sure youll have a really posative time here! the work is varied and theres plenty to learn if you want to expand your permaculture knowledge.
deep thanks and much love
