THE MARKET & ANIMALSAL QUINTA FOREST GARDEN sells second hand books at the local markets. We need your help in setting up and down the market.
Our rescued animals (cats, dogs, pig, donkeys) are a big part of life at AL QUINTA FOREST GARDEN and we need your help in keeping them well fed healthy and happy. The donkeys need to be fed and their enclosure cleaned daily and electric fences moved frequently so they have access to fresh grazing. |
THE GARDEN & FORESTCurrently we have approx 250 young olive trees, not yet in
commercial production. They are planted along 'forest garden' basic permaculture principles. The plan is to clear more forest to the point that young olives can be interplanted with the existing native trees - evergreen oaks, cork oaks, strawberry trees & sweet chestnuts. As in a natural forest the young trees will grow within the shelter of the larger trees, which will protect them from the wind & weather extremes and provide a certain amount of moisture during the hot, dry summers, as they will have tap roots reaching into the water table. Eventually, as the young trees grow, the older trees will be taken out & replaced with leguminous trees, such as carob, which will add nitrogen to the soil. Our aim is to create a sustainable ecosystem as well as produce olive oil! For our own use we also have a large vegetable garden, fruit trees & vines. We grow a large variety of Mediterannean plants - using traditional methods & experimenting with new ideas. We use the produce to make jams, pickles & preserves - and also to eat! |
